White House announces “Freedom Fuel” gas station selling gas for $3.47 because Trump is the 47th president

The White House has introduced the first Freedom Fuel gas station, promoting gasoline priced at $3.47 per gallon as part of a new campaign focused on lowering fuel costs. The first location is in Philadelphia, and officials say more participating stations are already operating across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

In a post shared Tuesday on X, the White House announced that the first Freedom Fuel station “has LANDED in Philadelphia.” The administration said the special price is meant to help drivers save money during the busy summer travel season.

According to the White House, the $3.47 price also references President Donald Trump, who is serving as the nation’s 47th president during his second term. The post added, “President Trump is leading the charge to lower gas prices this summer — putting more money in your pocket.”

A White House spokesperson told CBS News on Wednesday that the Freedom Fuel Network is a privately owned company operating 25 gas stations across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The spokesperson said the Trump administration does not own, fund, or subsidize the business.

Instead, the company is reportedly keeping prices lower by accepting smaller profit margins at participating stations.

Fuel prices have remained under pressure following military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28, which pushed global oil prices higher. Although gasoline costs climbed sharply after the conflict, prices have eased in recent weeks.

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline stood at $3.80 on Wednesday. That is down from a peak of $4.56 in mid-May but still above the $2.98 national average recorded before the conflict began.

Diesel prices have also increased. The national average reached $4.77 per gallon on Wednesday, compared with $3.76 before the Iran war. Higher diesel costs can affect trucking expenses and increase shipping costs across many industries.

Gasoline prices ultimately remain the responsibility of individual station owners. Many retailers adjust their profit margins to stay competitive instead of passing every increase in wholesale fuel costs directly to customers.

The White House also shared a video featuring drivers filling up at the Philadelphia Freedom Fuel station.

One customer said, “Thanks, Trump, for saving me some money,” after purchasing fuel. The average gasoline price across Pennsylvania was $3.98 per gallon, making the station’s advertised price notably lower than the statewide average.
