Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock on Oscar stage after he made jokes about his wife

This year’s 94th Academy Awards (2022 Oscars) brought about the biggest surprises, as many also got shocked after American actor, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock live on the Oscar stage.

Drawing to the later part of the 2022 Oscars, there was a heated exchange between American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, producer and director, Christopher Julius Rock popularly known as Chris Rock, and actor Will Smith which took everyone by shock.

Chris reappeared on stage for his presentation Oscar award for the documentary feature but decided to make some jokes about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, due to her newly shaved hair which she some time ago explained as a medical condition.

The joke by Chris Rock did not sit well with Will as he took onto the Oscar stage and gave Rock a hot and dirty slap and while returning to his seat yelled saying “Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth!”.

The incident took everyone by shock as no one was expecting such behaviour, it could be seen from the face of Kenyan-Mexican actress, Lupita Nyong’o, who was seated next to Will how shocked she was.

The incident happened before Will Smith won his first Oscar award for the night, the Oscars came off on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Will Smith, later on, dropped an apology to the Academy board as well as his fellow nominees for his actions that have gotten many people talking and in shock.

“I want to apologize to the Academy,” Smith said.

He again agged; “I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people. Tim and Trevor and Zack and Saniyya and Demi and Aunjanue and the entire cast and crew of ‘King Richard,’ Venus and Serena, the entire Williams family. Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams.”

According to information gathered, a statement from The Los Angeles Police Department confirms that they are aware of what took place last night, and according to them, Chris Rock has declined to file an official police report.

“If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report,” the police said.

The academy also on Monday morning, March 28, 2022, took to Twitter to leave a short and brief statement in regards to the event.

They wrote;

“The Academy does not condone violence of any form. Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.”
