Woman delivered of quintuplets after nine-year marriage

Nigeria: Mrs Chidinma Amaechi, a 28-year-old woman, has given birth to quintuplets after trying to conceive for nine years. The caesarian section delivery took place on Thursday at the Life International Hospital in Awka, Anambra State.

The newborns consist of three boys and two girls and are currently receiving medical care in the hospital’s intensive care unit. Mrs Amaechi’s husband, Mr Tochukwu Amaechi, is a trader based in Onitsha and they conceived naturally despite his unemployment status.

Due to the high cost of medical bills, which includes N250,000 per day for the incubators alone, Mrs Amaechi’s family is calling for financial assistance from philanthropists, non-governmental organizations, and the government.

They estimate the total medical expenses to be over N7.5 million, in addition to other costs incurred during the pregnancy. Mrs Amaechi recently completed her National Youth Service Corps program in July 2022.

According to Mrs Amaechi’s elder sister, Mrs Ebele Oranekwu, the family is hopeful for the generosity of the public to help them settle the bills, enabling them to enjoy God’s blessings fully.

She said, “This bill amounts to about N7.5m aside from other huge bills already accumulated in the last two months of managing the delicate pregnancy at the hospital.

“We are calling on philanthropists, government and non-governmental organisations to come to our aid to enable us to settle the huge medical bills so we can reap the full benefits of God’s blessings upon our family.”

One of the caregivers spoke anonymously and disclosed that the newborns and their mother are responding well to treatment.

Anyone interested in supporting Mrs Amaechi and her family can donate to her First Bank account under the name Mrs Chidinma Anthonia Amaechi with account number 3093053283.
