President Akuffo-Addo cannot expect Ghanaians to pay the E-levy while he lives like an Arabian king. This statement was made by the former deputy minister for information, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

The former deputy minister believes that taxing people’s savings and capital is not the best way to go.

Honorable Felix said on Joy FM that “The office of government machinery is receiving about GHC3.2 billion – over 500 million cedis more than last year.”

The honorable member added that “As I speak to you, our President likes to sit in a $14,000 an hour rented jet at a time when we have a Presidential jet that is fit for purpose.”

He continued to question that “How can you live like an Arabian King?”

“You will not listen to cries and pleas to cut down on this cost and you expect them to pay e-levy ?” he added.

The minister then emphasized, saying that the Akuffo-Addo administration has been pushing for a 1.75 percent E-levy.

However, The proposal has been rejected by the majority of Ghanaians, as well as the Minority in Parliament.

The former minister believes that the implementation of the e-levy is not going to solve Ghana’s problems.

He also argued the importance to stress that the Ghanaian Economy is currently hanging by a thread.

And that it’s no exaggeration to say that it has already collapsed.

Meanwhile, sources say that Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister, may withdraw the E-levy bill in the coming weeks.
