2 Dead in Random Stabbings in Denver; Suspect Elijah Caudill Arrested

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of random stabbings in Denver that left two people dead over the weekend.

Elijah Caudill was taken into custody on Monday, January 13, after authorities linked him to the attacks that occurred between January 11 and January 12.

According to the Denver Police Department, the stabbings began on Saturday evening, starting at approximately 5:12 p.m. near 16th Street.

The first victim, who was not named, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was able to transport themselves to a nearby hospital.

Just five minutes later, another attack occurred, this time resulting in the death of an adult female, who was rushed to a hospital and pronounced deceased.

A third victim, a male, was stabbed around 5:50 p.m. on 16th Street and Lawrence Street. He survived but was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The most recent stabbing took place on Sunday evening, around 8:00 p.m., where an adult male was fatally attacked.

Authorities say they had no knowledge of this fourth victim when they spotted a man matching the suspect’s description, running with a knife. After a brief pursuit, Caudill was apprehended.

Caudill has been charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of two victims, including the fatal attack on an at-risk elder, and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Police have confirmed that there is no known relationship between Caudill and the victims, and the attacks appear to have been random.

Denver’s Mayor Mike Johnston addressed the public, expressing condolences to the families of the victims, and reassuring residents that the city remains safe.

Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas also expressed his sorrow for the families impacted by this tragic series of events.

As of now, Caudill is being represented by a public defender, and authorities continue to investigate the details surrounding the attacks.
