The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has established an 11-member committee to investigate the reasons behind its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, the committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough review of the party’s internal elections, campaign strategies, and identifying the factors that contributed to its electoral loss.
The committee, which has been given a three-month period to complete its investigation, will report its findings to the NPP’s National Council.
Justin Frimpong Kodua, the party’s General Secretary, confirmed that the committee will also propose solutions to address the challenges faced by the party during the election campaign.
The NPP’s loss in the 2024 presidential race marked a significant moment in Ghanaian politics, as former President John Dramani Mahama emerged victorious with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the total votes cast.

Mahama’s main rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, secured 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%, leaving the NPP with a significant defeat.
In addition to losing the presidential race, the NDC also secured a commanding majority in Parliament.
With over 180 seats already confirmed, including several key constituencies that were previously held by the NPP, Mahama now has a stronger mandate as he prepares to return to the presidency.
The establishment of the 11-member committee marks a crucial step for the NPP in regrouping and reevaluating its approach.
The party aims to use the committee’s findings to re-strategize and improve its future political campaigns.
As the committee sets out on its investigation, many are watching closely to see how the NPP plans to rebuild and adjust in the wake of its electoral defeat.
