Students At Ghana Law School Instructed to Submit Their Social Media Handles For Monitoring

2 Min Read

The Ghana School of Law has asked for access to students’ social media profiles to ensure that they maintain a degree of professionalism suited to their chosen field.

The order is intended to help many law school students who are interested in getting admitted to the bar retain a good reputation, according to School Director, Mr. Yaw Oppong.

These remarks were stated by Mr. Oppong at the School of Law Students’ Representative Council’s executive board swearing-in ceremony (SRC).

“Everybody will have to provide their social media handles. We are going to look at it and you will be monitored in terms of conduct. We are required by law to make recommendations.” he attested.

“We don’t want to stampede you. You are going to reapply beyond the pass and submit yourselves for all legitimate checks,” Mr. Oppong added.

As a result, he ordered the students to undergo character checks before the General Legal Council gave its permission.

To that effect, Mr.Yaw Oppong claimed that doing so would protect the students’ high standards of character.

Mr. Oppong iterated that:

“If we are able to assist as many of you as possible who want to help yourselves grow beyond the level you are at, we will not jeopardize your honor in the process.”

Moreover, he highlighted that: “If you are eligible to proceed to the second year and you are informed that you cannot go because of terrible character, it is of no use.”
