According to his Instagram post on Friday night, Kanye West, an American rapper, stated that he has had a change of heart regarding his views on Jewish people and no longer identifies as an antisemite, which he attributes to watching the 2012 movie “21 Jump Street,” featuring actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.
21 Jump Street (film)
“21 Jump Street” is a buddy cop action comedy movie that was released in 2012. The film marks the live-action directorial debut of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay written by Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall.
Starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, the movie is an adaptation of the television series of the same name that aired from 1987 to 1991, created by Stephen J. Cannell and Patrick Hasburgh. The plot follows two police officers, Schmidt and Jenko, who go undercover as high school students in order to prevent a new synthetic drug from spreading and to apprehend its source.
Kanye West (Ye) Anti-Semitic Saga
In 2022, Kanye West faced severe backlash for making a series of antisemitic remarks and promoting conspiracy theories related to Jewish people. His actions resulted in a loss of over a billion dollars in net worth and the termination of lucrative brand partnerships with GAP, Adidas, and Balenciaga.
Additionally, he lost his record contract and was dropped by his talent agency. Several planned concerts were also canceled.
The Anti Defamation League released a report earlier this year linking at least 30 hate incidents directly to West’s comments.
Kanye West No Longer An Anti-Semite
In a recent Instagram post, Kanye West, who now goes by the legal name ‘Ye’, shared the movie artwork for “21 Jump Street” and expressed his newfound positive views towards Jewish people.
Kanye said, “Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again. No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people.”
West also pointed out that as a Christian who acknowledges that Jesus was Jewish, he cannot be labeled as an antisemite. He ended his post by expressing gratitude towards Hill and declaring his love for him.
He added “No Christian can be labeled antisemite knowing Jesus is Jew. Thank you Jonah Hill. I love you.”
