After a hiatus of over five years, Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji is gearing up for a comeback to captivate movie enthusiasts and her devoted fans on the silver screen.

The renowned and multi-award-winning film luminary took a five-year sabbatical after the release of her Netflix masterpiece, Lionheart (2018).

According to a recent report from Pulse Nigeria, Genevieve’s comeback will involve not only acting but also serving as an executive producer for a movie titled ‘I Do Not Come To You By Chance.’ This film is based on a book of the same name by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, which received critical acclaim for its debut.

The novel ‘I Do Not Come To You By Chance,’ authored by Nigerian writer Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, emerged in 2009 as her inaugural literary creation. Published on May 1, 2009, under the Hachette Books imprint of the Perseus Books Group, the narrative is situated within the treacherous realm of Nigerian email scams.

It delves into the narrative of a young man burdened with the mission of extricating his family from the clutches of poverty. The novel portrays the extraordinary lengths he embarks upon to secure the well-being of his loved ones.

This literary gem earned prestigious accolades including the 2010 Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book (Africa) and the 2010 Betty Trask First Book Award. It was lauded by The Washington Post, earning a spot among the Best Books of the Year.

Genevieve Nnaji Returns To Our Screens

Genevieve Nnaji, a veteran actress, will serve as an executive producer alongside Chinny Carter. The film adaptation features well-known actor Blossom Chukwujekwu and newcomer Paul Nnadiekwe, as well as other cast members like Jennifer Eliogu, Sambasa Nberibe, and Beverly Osu.

The movie, presented in both English and Igbo, is directed by Ishaya Bako, with Femi Awojide as the Director of Photography.

‘I Do Not Come To You By Chance’ is poised to make its worldwide debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), taking its rightful place in this year’s Centrepiece program—a segment previously known as Contemporary World Cinema.
