Aisha Huang, the notorious figure in illegal mining, has been handed a 4-and-a-half-year jail sentence for mining offenses.
The Accra High Court, on Monday, December 4, 2023, disclosed that Huang was convicted of engaging in mining without the required license. Additionally, she was slapped with a hefty fine of GH¢48,000.
The Chinese national, who goes by her legal name En Huang, faced charges including conducting mining operations without a license, facilitating the involvement of individuals in mining activities, employing foreigners unlawfully, and entering Ghana in violation of the entry prohibition.
Initially, En Huang vehemently denied all allegations, asserting her innocence regarding any involvement in illegal mining.
However, in today’s hearing, the judge sided with the prosecutors, affirming that Aisha had exploited the hospitality extended to her.
The court’s stance also aligns with the belief that the suspect misused her repatriation arrangement by returning to Ghana.
Deputy Attorney General Alfred-Tuah Yeboah has given assurance that after serving her sentence, the convicted individual will face deportation.
