About Ballon D’OR
What is Ballon D’or: The Ballon d’Or is an annual football award presented by French news magazine France Football that is one of the oldest and generally regarded as the most prestigious individual award for football players. It has been awarded since 1956.
On Monday’s award show, Argentina professional footballer, Lionel Messi made history once again as he men’s 2021 Ballon d’Or award for the seventh time.
The 34-year-old PSG striker, Messi managed to beat the likes of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Chelsea’s Jorginho, as well as his rival five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo to collect the prize.
Lewandowski did pick up the consolation prize of the newly formed Striker of the Year award, while the Women’s Ballon d’Or went to Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas.
Chelsea Football Club also won the award for the Club of the Year for their on-pitch achievements with both men’s and women’s teams.
