Ghanaian gospel singer and fashion icon Empress Gifty has supported the habit of some women dating married men, calling it OK and referring to them as “side chicks” in Ghana.

She reaffirmed her position in a recent TV3 interview, emphasizing that there are biblical precedents for her behavior in addition to it being appropriate.

Empress Gifty underlined that although this may be seen as contentious by society, it is a common occurrence and not anything to be disapproved of.

Side chicks who pursue married men are perfectly acceptable, but they ought to have the common sense not to become pregnant for them. Empress Gifty said in a TV3 interview that “the Bible does not frown on it, even it’s accepted in the Bible; Hagar can be an example.”

Social media users have been debating Empress Gifty’s remarks; some have defended her viewpoint, while others have criticised it for encouraging immoral behaviour.
