Flight Attendant Arrested for Allegedly Slashing Co-Worker and Security Guard in New Orleans Hotel

A flight attendant has been arrested after allegedly slashing a co-worker and a security guard during a violent altercation at a hotel in New Orleans.

Joshua Smith, 36, was taken into custody early on November 25, 2024, after an incident that occurred around 3:15 a.m. local time.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, Smith and his co-workers had been out for an evening together. On their way back to the hotel, his colleagues noticed Smith acting erratically.

When a female co-worker attempted to escort him to his room, the situation turned violent. Smith allegedly slashed the woman on her arm and neck.

As she tried to flee, Smith reportedly followed her. A security guard who attempted to intervene was also cut on his thumb.

Smith, an employee of Delta Airlines, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and simple battery.

His attorney, Thomas Calogero, stated that Smith “blacked out” following a night of drinking and did not intend to kill anyone.

Delta Airlines responded by emphasizing its “zero tolerance for violence” and reaffirming its commitment to cooperating with law enforcement. It is unclear whether Smith has entered a plea yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
