Ghana possesses the fifth-costliest squad at the 2023 AFCON, valued at €196 million

Ghana’s squad, ranked fifth overall, will compete in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

This is based on an analysis of the market values of the players on each of the 24 competing teams conducted by Bettingsites.co.uk in the UK.

Nigeria leads the way with the most valuable squad at the AFCON, totalling €349 million. This is helped by the huge transfer value of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen is currently valued at €110 million, which is more than the values of 14 of the teams competing in the AFCON.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s chances of winning the AFCON are only 5.3%, according to a prediction made by an Opta supercomputer.

The Black Stars are attempting to win their fifth continental championship, but first they must end a trophy drought that dates back to 1982 and spans four decades.

Group B includes Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde. Chris Hughton’s team will kick off their AFCON campaign against the latter on Sunday.

Opta’s supercomputer has projected which teams are favorites and each country’s chances before the tournament even begins.

Senegal, the reigning champions, were selected by the supercomputer as the favorites with a 12.8% chance, ahead of the hosts, the Ivory Coast, with a 12.1% chance.

World Cup semi finalist team for 2022 Morocco, with a chance of 11.1%, is ranked third among the favorites, closely followed by Algeria, Egypt, and Nigeria.

Ghana enters the AFCON as the ninth-best favorite, with a slim 5.3% chance of winning.
