The running mate of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reassured him of her dedication and responsibility in their prospective administration.

In reaction to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s comments about being a “driver’s mate,” which he implied limited his ability to effectively handle issues facing the government, she has provided her assurance.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang declared that she would not minimise her position or claim to be only a “driver’s mate” in trying times, in contrast to Dr. Bawumia, who emphasised his vision as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer and mentioned his prior role as a “driver’s mate.”

Rather, she promised to accept responsibility for whatever losses the party may experience as well as to participate in their common victories.

She underlined that being a leader means accepting accountability and actively seeking answers rather than running from problems.

“I’ll take pride in our group accomplishments and accept responsibility for any failures we may have. And when the chips are down, Your Excellency John Mahama, I won’t tell the world that I was just the driver’s mate out of selfish desire,” she said.

She stressed how important the 2024 election will be for Ghana because it will determine whether or not the nation is pulled back from the verge of collapse, normalising corruption, unfathomable greed, and extreme hopelessness.

“Restoring the NDC to power is not the only goal of the election; it is essential given the current situation.”

“Winning the upcoming elections and keeping them that way is all about having a purpose. There is more to the goal than those listed above. The chance to mend our nation once more is the goal. It concerns the chance to rescue Ghana from the brink of devastation, the normalisation of corruption, the inexplicable greed, and the profound despair.

The goal is to create a Ghana where people are determined to reclaim their freedom of thought and agenda, and where they are full of hope and confidence. We have to strive for a Ghana that can, at the very least, feed itself; where the rule of law is applied properly; where wealth is shared; where democracy is not a passing fad; where individuals are not mistreated; and where no one or the majority is denied access to the most basic essentials of existence.
