I’ll prioritize accountability to Ghanaians as I’ll face them beyond 2024, says Bawumia.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, has declared that if elected president, he will answer to Ghanaians more than his chief rival, former President John Mahama, who he claims will not answer to the public since he will not run for reelection.

Speaking on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the NPP International Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr. Bawumia explained that, as the first-ever president, he will be more answerable to Ghanaians because he will have another chance to stand for election. This is in contrast to Mahama, who will not be able to do so because he will only be in office for a single term.

“I should be voted for because, aside from my track record as vice president, my diligence, my credibility, and my vision for Ghana’s future, I will be more accountable to the people of Ghana than John Mahama.” stated Dr. Bawumia.

“Because I will have another chance to seek the people’s mandate after 2024, as President, I will be more accountable.  Dr. Bawumia continued, “Mahama has only one term and he will not return to Ghanaians to seek re-elections so he will not be accountable.”

Regarding the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia stated that Ghana requires a leader with legitimacy and a track record to address generational issues and corruption. He asserted that his policies as Vice President have demonstrated his ability to handle problems and fight corruption.

According to Dr. Bawumia, “Ghana needs problem solvers, generational thinkers, and people with innovative ideas.”

“I am a creative problem-solver who possesses cross-generational thinking skills. I can attest to it with my proven track record as vice president,” he continued.

Dr. Bawumia mentioned a number of policy measures he has led, claiming they are tackling the nation’s generational issues.

He mentioned the digital national identity system as a solution to the long-standing issues of exclusion and lack of national identity; the national property address system as a means of addressing the lack of property identity; mobile money interoperability as a means of resolving financial exclusion and advancing a cashless society; the digitalization of public services as a means of enhancing efficiency and reducing corruption; and other initiatives like the One Ambulance One Constituency and Agenda 111 hospitals.

In comparison to former President Mahama, Dr. Bawumia stated that he has shown a greater dedication to the fight against corruption in his role as vice president.

He cited the effective way that the digitalization of numerous public services is combating corruption, emphasising that this is the way to proceed and not merely giving lip service to the issue.

“What anti-corruption initiatives did former President Mahama spearhead while serving as Vice President or President? He is unable to give you an answer if you ask him since, while serving as President and Vice President, he was not dedicated to combating corruption.
