John Legend recently expressed his admiration for fellow musician Taylor Swift’s for bravery in speaking openly about her political views, despite the risks it posed to her career.
During a recent with The Independent, Legend disclosed that he has “always respected” Swift for being “willing to take that risk” given her conservative-leaning fanbase from the country music world.
According to John who we already made it clear is a suppporter of Hamala Harris in the upcoming November US presidential election stated that Swift faced more challenges in speaking out about politics, and her choice as compared to himself.
“It was always really difficult for Taylor to speak out for liberal and progressive candidates coming from the country music world, where the fanbase is a lot more conservative,” he said adding that “It was riskier for her to start speaking out about politics than it is for me. I always respected the fact that she was willing to take that risk.”
This comes after Taylor Swift recently and publicly endorsed Harris for president in an Instagram post which brought about a lot of talks, mixed reactions following her influence on the public based on her huge fan base.

However, commenting on her social media endosrement of harris, John Legend thought Swift shared the “perfect statement” where she endorsed Kamala Harris for the upcoming election. Swift praised Harris for her leadership qualities and the causes she champions. “I’m voting for [Kamala Harris] because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote.
Swift, who was previously known for staying away from politics, publicly endorsed Democratic candidates in 2018, including Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper in Tennessee’s midterm elections. By 2020, she endorsed Joe Biden for president, certifying her stance on supporting Democratic leadership.
Speaking on his suppport for Harris, Legend stood on his strong belief that Harris is the best candidate for the presidency. He stated, “She’s more presidential, she’s more intelligent, she understands the problems of the American people better and has better solutions.”
He further criticized Donald Trump, describing him as “utterly toxic, unqualified and manifestly terrible at his job.”

Along with his political views, Legend used the opportunity to talk about the discrimination that women experience in society. He talked especially about the criticism his wife, Chrissy Teigen, receives for her parenting style, attractiveness, and wardrobe choices.
“I honestly just hope we all get better with how we treat women,” Legend stated. “It’s abundantly clear to me, from my observation of what happens with Chrissy, that it’s harder to be a woman in public than it is to be a man.”
He highlighted how women in leadership roles or public positions often receive disproportionate criticism compared to their male counterparts.
However, Donald Trump has had a lot of things to say following Swift’s endorsement as usual, He ones stated that Taylor would “Pay a Price” for rallying behind Harris, and in another instance he took to his social media platform, Truth Social, where he announced in a post that he “Hates Taylor Swift.”
