In a rare and candid interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Lady Gaga shared her thoughts on her artistic legacy and the creative process behind her upcoming album, Mayhem.
The 38-year-old pop icon spoke passionately about her dedication to her craft, emphasizing her desire to be remembered for her artistry rather than just her past fashion statements or viral moments.
“Something I want my fans to know now, which is why I said I love being Lady Gaga, is I actually returned back to my artistry recently in a huge way of making this album,” she revealed.
Reflecting on her deep-rooted connection to music, Gaga explained: “I put so much of myself as a musician, as a producer, as a songwriter into everything.” She continued, “And that is who Lady Gaga is to me. Maybe to someone else it might be the meat dress or something that I did that they remember as me. But for me, I always want to be remembered for being a real artist and someone that cares so much about a life of art.”
During the conversation, Gaga also shed light on the unique approach she took for Mayhem, explaining why she refrains from categorizing its sound.
“ARTPOP was a vibe. Joanne was a sound. Chromatica had a sound. All different. The Fame Monster was more chaotic. The Fame was theatrical pop. Born This Way, to me, had more of a metal electro New York vibe to it. I actually made the effort making Mayhem to not do that and not try to give my music an outfit,” she said.

Instead, she embraced a broader spectrum of influences, allowing her creativity to flow organically. “That was how I discovered my songwriting and production abilities as a kid, so that was a special experience,” Gaga explained. “Then still some of that influence though, the electro grunge influence, made it still onto other songs that were some were industrial.”
Gaga also offered insight into specific tracks from Mayhem, highlighting the inspiration behind Garden of Eden, which she described as “2000 throwbacks.”
She also teased a track titled Can’t Stop the High, which will be available exclusively on her website. “There’s a song called Can’t Stop the High, that you haven’t heard, that’s on the version of the album that’s on my website only and that is a pure electro grunge record that goes even harder than Perfect Celebrity does,” she added.
The highly anticipated Mayhem, Lady Gaga’s seventh studio album, is set to drop on Friday, March 7, 2025. Announced in January, the 14-track project is already generating buzz among fans eager to experience the evolution of Gaga’s ever-changing sound.
