Zielinski’s first-half goal and Robert Lewandowski’s first-ever World Cup goal give Poland a massive three points.

Later on in the first half, Wojciech Szczesny kept Poland ahead by saving both the penalty and the rebound.

In response, Saudi Arabia increased the pressure, and after a defensive blunder by Abdulelah Al Malki of Saudi Arabia, Poland’s captain, Robert Lewandowski, punished Saudi Arabia with his nation’s second goal of the game.

Lewandowski’s lack of a World Cup goal is rather shocking, but this was also the forward’s first-ever World Cup goal, which also resulted in a meltdown from him after the momentous score.

The Barcelona forward has now tied Brazilian great Pele for the most goals scored for his country, Brazil, with 77 goals, both of which players have played in 92 games. He reached the top 10 list of men’s international goal scorers after accomplishing the achievement in his 136th outing.

Lewandowski’s missed penalty against Mexico in the first game did appear to be particularly expensive for Poland, but this will feel like some sort of atonement for the legendary striker.

They will go into their next game against Argentina with a lot of confidence.
