Liz Truss, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, resigned on Thursday, October 20th, 2022, just 44 days after taking office to serve her country.

Only six weeks after being appointed over Rishi Sunak, her economic policy had sent shockwaves through the markets and divided her Conservative Party.

After support for the premiere fell spectacularly just two months into her tenure, a growing chorus of people within her own party called for her resignation.

Liz Truss Resigns As UK Prime Minister: Truss’s career was in jeopardy after a parliamentary vote on Wednesday night degenerated into absolute mayhem, with members of her Conservative party yelling and swearing at each other and others saying they were physically abused.

Liz Truss, the Prime Minister for only 44 days, has announced her resignation.

“I recognise given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative party. I’ve spoken to his majesty the King to notify him I’m resigning as leader of the Conservative party,” she said.

Truss took over as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in early September, following a prolonged leadership election following Boris Johnson’s resignation. However, she was obliged to abandon the majority of her contentious “mini Budget” after it caused the pound to fall and gilt rates to soar sharply.

The next week will see a leadership election.

Ms Trus’s resignation comes barely 24 hours after saying she is a fighter but not a quitter while reacting to MP’s who were heavily criticizing her “I am someone who is prepared to front up. I’m prepared to take the tough decisions,” she said yesterday.
