A Michigan man tragically lost his life on Christmas Eve after allegedly trying to protect a dog from being beaten.

Robert “Bobby” Cavanaugh, 60, was found unconscious in a Madison Heights neighborhood on December 24, and despite efforts to save him, he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Authorities arrested 68-year-old Rodney Beasley in connection with Cavanaugh’s death. The family of the victim has claimed that Cavanaugh, a well-known animal lover, was trying to intervene when he witnessed the dog being beaten.

According to a GoFundMe set up for funeral costs, when Cavanaugh attempted to stop the assault, Beasley allegedly struck him with a pipe.
