Rapper Kiernan Forbes, a.k.a. AKA, from South Africa, and his buddy Tibz Motsoane were shot and killed in February 2023 outside a restaurant in Durban.

There may be a connection between the accused gunman and a well-known businessman, according to recent developments in their trial.

According to court documents, one of the suspects, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, received nearly 800,000 rand from a company controlled by Sydney Mfundo Gcaba, a prominent South African family member, only one day after the killings.

Also, the prosecutors produced phone records demonstrating a conversation that Gwabeni and Mr. Gcaba had prior to the transfer.

Mr. Gcaba has not addressed these claims in his response. The money, according to the prosecution, was then split up among the seven suspects.

Prosecutors contend that there is insufficient evidence to back up Gwabeni’s assertion that he received the money in exchange for consulting services he rendered to the business.

The Gcaba family owns a sizable empire in the taxi industry in South Africa. The motive behind Mr. Gcaba’s suspected involvement in AKA’s murder is still being investigated by authorities.
