Prices of Foods won’t decrease in December: Dr. Nyaaba

Dr. Charles Nyaaba, head of programs for the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, has raised doubt on a potential drop in food prices in December.

According to him, this is due to the challenges farmers confront, such as the high cost of doing business.

Dr. Nyaaba told Roland Walker on TV3’s The Big Issue on Friday, November 4, that “depending on the commodities, food prices will not come down, it will be exceedingly difficult for prices to reduce.”

Interestingly enough, this is happening at a time when Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, Accra’s Minister of Food and Agriculture, has pledged that the Ministry will start a program to provide food at a lesser cost.

At a meeting with farmers in Sefwi Wiaso, in the Western North Region, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie stated that “the ministry itself is going to take its own initiative.”

“We are going to link up with the farm gate so that we make all the arrangements to ensure that we put up kiosks on our compounds at the ministry, specifically for food from Sefwi Wiaso and we are going to give it a lot of publicity,” he added.
