Colombian singer and songwriter, Shakira seems to be enjoying being single as she reveals it’s good not to have a husband.

Born with her legal name Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, the Grammy-winning artist struggled with balancing her musical career and family life. However, she now finds solace in being single and independent, allowing her to wholeheartedly focus on her passion.

As many are aware, Shakira faced challenges in finding right balance while in a relationship with soccer star Gerard Piqué, with whom she shared an 11-year partnership until their separation in 2022. Together, they are parents to two sons, Milan, aged 11, and Sasha, aged 9.

According to the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer, 47, in a recent Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, she sees it very cool not to have a husband as she claims it was dragging her down.

She said she failed, and felt she was leaving her family unattended, Shakira acknowledged the complexities she faced, describing it as a love-hate relationship. Because she sometimes had to be pulled into the studio to do her work.

“In a way, it’s kind of good not to have a husband because… I don’t know why it was dragging me down, man. Now I feel like working. I feel like writing songs. I feel like making music. It’s just a compulsion — a compulsive need of mine that I didn’t feel before.” She said.

“It was kind of like a sometimes a love-hate relationship because every time I had to be pulled into the studio to do my work, I failed,” she recalls. “I felt that I was leaving my family unattended. There were times when I really didn’t enjoy it. You know, I felt guilt. I felt torn. “

Now, Shakira said, being both a musician and parent feels “totally different” than it did before “even though it’s more challenging, because now I’m in charge of these two kids, these two babies that depend on me so much.”

“And I’m a single mother,” she continued. “I don’t have a husband at home to help out with anything.”

Although, honestly, that might not be a bad thing? In general, she noted that she feels “more completed now” than ever, in part thanks to the unwavering support that she’s received from her fanbase.

Shakira is unveiling her 12th studio album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), this Friday, March 22, 2024. This long-awaited release marks her return to the music scene after a hiatus of seven years.

Described in a press release as a testament to Shakira’s resilience and the transformative power of music, the album encapsulates her journey through challenging experiences, ultimately shaping them into cherished moments.

Reflecting on the creative process, Shakira shared, “Making this body of work has been an alchemical process. While writing each song I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”

Comprising 16 tracks, the LP boasts eight never-before-heard songs alongside a remix and seven previously released singles. Among these are collaborations such as “Music Sessions Vol. 53” with Bizarrap, “TQG” featuring Karol G, “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro, and “Copa Vacía” alongside Manuel Turizo.
