Theatre enthusiasts in Takoradi are in for a treat this weekend as renowned playwright Latif Abubakar brings back the magic of his adaptation play, “Life is a Dream.”
After a successful premiere in the national capital, the play, now infused with Ghanaian and Afrocentric flavors, will grace the stage at Akroma Plaza in Takoradi.
Abubakar, an award-winning playwright, has taken a 1635 Spanish script by Pedro Calderon de la Barca and transformed it into a masterpiece that incorporates suspense, dance, educational elements, and a rich blend of the Gonja culture, with its setting in Gonjaland.

Intriguingly, the play delves into the profound mysteries of human experience, challenging the notion that the tangible world we perceive is a mere shadow. Abubakar emphasizes that the only true reality lies in the invisible and eternal aspects of life.

The narrative revolves around Prince Tijani, imprisoned by his father, King Abdullah, due to a prophecy predicting his role in bringing disaster to the kingdom and the eventual demise of the king.
The play intricately weaves themes of morality, honor, vengeance, and the eternal struggle between free will and destiny, all centered around the restoration of one’s honor.
