Authorities in Nevada confirmed that they served a search warrant this week in connection with the long-unsolved killing of rapper Tupac Shakur nearly 30 years ago.
Tupac’s Murder: The tragic incident occurred on the night of September 7, 1996, when the prolific hip-hop figure was fatally shot during a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. At the time of his death, Tupac Shakur was just 25 years old.
The search warrant execution took place on Monday in the neighboring city of Henderson, as stated by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. However, the specific details of what they were looking for and the locations they searched remain undisclosed.

Aden OcampoGomez, a spokesperson for the department, stated in a brief phone call that further information regarding the latest developments in the case cannot be provided due to the ongoing open investigation.

It is important to note that Nevada does not have a statute of limitations for prosecuting homicide cases, which keeps the possibility of justice alive despite the significant time that has passed since the rapper’s tragic death.
During the fateful incident, Shakur was sitting in a black BMW alongside Marion “Suge” Knight, the head of Death Row Records.
The shooting occurred while they were waiting at a red light near the Las Vegas Strip, where a white Cadillac pulled up beside them and opened fire. Shakur suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he fought for six days before succumbing to his injuries.
Regrettably, no arrests have been made in connection with the killing, and the investigation has faced obstacles, with witnesses refusing to cooperate, as previously reported by the Las Vegas police.
Tupac Shakur’s death occurred amid a feud with his rap rival, the Notorious B.I.G., who was fatally shot six months later. This rivalry unfolded during the infamous East Coast-West Coast conflict, which greatly impacted the hip-hop scene in the mid-1990s. The feud escalated after Shakur was seriously wounded in another shooting during a robbery at a midtown Manhattan hotel.
Shakur openly accused the Notorious B.I.G. and Sean “Diddy” Combs of having prior knowledge of the shooting, accusations that were vehemently denied by both parties. This incident fueled the feud, creating a significant division within the hip-hop community and among fans.

A native of New York, Tupac Shakur represented the West Coast after signing with Los Angeles-based Death Row Records. Throughout his career, he engaged in media and lyrical exchanges with the East Coast representatives, the Notorious B.I.G. and Combs, who were associated with Bad Boy Records in New York City.
Widely recognized as one of the most influential and versatile rappers of all time, Tupac Shakur received six Grammy Award nominations, a testament to his immense talent. In his relatively short music career of five years, he achieved five No. 1 albums, including “Me Against the World” in 1995, “All Eyez on Me” in 1996, and three posthumous releases, such as “The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory,” recorded under the alias Makaveli, as well as “Until the End of Time” and “Loyal to the Game” in 2001 and 2004, respectively.
During his time in the spotlight, Tupac earned an impressive 21 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, with notable hits like “Dear Mama” and “Old School” in 1995, and the well-known track “How Do U Want It/California Love,” featuring K-Ci and JoJo, which spent two weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 from his final studio album and Death Row Records debut, “All Eyez on Me.”
According to entertainment data company Luminate, Tupac Shakur’s album sales have reached an astonishing 33 million, and an even more remarkable 41 million when accounting for track sales and streaming equivalents. His musical legacy continues to thrive, with on-demand video and audio streams totaling a staggering 10.1 billion.
In 2017, Tupac Shakur was posthumously inducted into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with the esteemed Snoop Dogg leading the induction ceremony.
More recently, in June of this year, the revered rapper was honored with a posthumous star on the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame. Several museum exhibits have also paid tribute to his life, including the moving exhibition “Tupac Shakur: Wake Me When I’m Free,” which opened to the public in 2021, commemorating his profound impact on music and culture.
