Once close friends, Nigerian musicians Ahmed Ololade, also known as Asake, and Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better known as Oxlade, have recently generated suspicions of a split.

Several web-accessible video recordings show the two as they were once completely solitary.

Recall that Oxlade disclosed to Rolling Stone that he and Asake used to roll together “back then” and that Asake was among the first to provide him with comments on his song, which subsequently became a global success.

Oxlade said in that interview:

“Back then, myself and Asake used to really roll together. He was like “Yo, the song is going to go crazy. It’s going to go crazy.” I was like, “Ehh, every song, everybody says it’s going to go crazy.”

Not unnaturally, a lot of people took the remark to mean that the two had grown distant from one another.

In a subsequent interview with Afrobeats Intelligence, Oxlade acknowledged that he and Asake are no longer the best of friends.

In Oxlade’s words:

Asake used to be my best friend, but…y’know. He’s still my brother o, but…the game is the game.”
