In a shocking turn of events, the Abia State Police Command has reported the apprehension of a 28-year-old woman, Adaeze Lawrence, for allegedly abducting a one-month-and-two-day-old baby boy from her friend. The suspect’s actions have left the community bewildered and the mother distraught.

According to the police report, the suspect cunningly exploited the trust of the baby’s mother, Onyinyechi Owujie.

Adaeze Lawrence, known to be a hair stylist, had a connection to the victim through her elder sister. This connection paved the way for her to gain the mother’s trust, leading to a horrific betrayal.

The incident unfolded during the celebration of the baby’s birth. On that fateful day, while festivities were ongoing, Lawrence seized the opportunity and absconded with the newborn.

The distressing crime came to light after the child’s mother noticed the baby’s disappearance and immediately reported the incident to the authorities.

The Abia State Police Special Weapons and Tactics Team, Aba, acted swiftly upon receiving credible information, leading to the arrest of Adaeze Lawrence at her hideout. She was found in possession of the one-month-old baby boy.

The police’s investigation revealed that the suspect and the baby’s mother’s elder sister were once schoolmates, providing Lawrence with the means to manipulate her way into the victim’s life.

Despite initial denials, medical examinations conducted at the police clinic contradicted Lawrence’s claims, ultimately forcing her to confess to the crime. The baby’s biological mother positively identified her child, confirming the abduction that took place on August 6, 2023.

Currently, the suspect remains in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chioma Chinaka, has confirmed that once the investigation is concluded, Adaeze Lawrence will be charged to court to face the consequences of her actions.

This shocking incident serves as a grave reminder of the need for vigilance and caution even within seemingly familiar circles.
