Amber Heard has iterated that her defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp had been resolved.

The unexpected action comes just weeks after the actress’s attorneys filed a formal appeal of the Virginia jury’s judgment from June, which gave the Pirates of the Caribbean actor more than $10 million.

Heard stated on Monday that she “made a very tough decision” to settle “after much thought.”

In her lengthy speech, the actress continued to criticize the American legal system and claimed she “cannot recreate” the humiliation she endured throughout the six-week trial.

“It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed.

The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are revictimized when they come forward. Now I finally have an opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago,” the Aquaman star iterated.

Meanwhile, in a statement to Yahoo Entertainment, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez, Depp’s attorneys, claim: We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was about bringing the truth to light.

The jury’s unanimous decision and the resulting judgment in Mr. Depp’s favor against Ms. Heard remain fully in place. The payment of $1M — which Mr. Depp is pledging and will donate to charities — reinforces Ms. Heard’s acknowledgment of the conclusion of the legal system’s rigorous pursuit for justice.”

Meanwhile, 36-year-old Heard stated that her declaration is “not an act of concession” and that “there are no limitations or gag orders with regard to my voice moving forward.”

Contrary to what she claims, the judgment can still be used against her if she repeats the false and defamatory allegations, according to a Depp source.
