Hospitals that have unpaid bills have received demand notifications from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which threaten to disconnect them from the national grid if payment is not received within 72 hours.
The entire overdue sum owed by 91 health facilities nationwide to the ECG is GH¢261 million.
A number of well-known hospitals are in danger of being disconnected, including the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta region, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the 37 Military Hospital, and Ridge Hospital in the Greater Accra region, the Komfo Anokye and Manhyia Government Hospitals in the Ashanti region, and the Kibi Government Hospital in the Eastern region.

This move is a component of ECG’s larger plan to chase down outstanding payments from clients and increase its operational capabilities.
This was Ashanti Region ECG’s last resort, according to Grace Garshong, the communications manager, in an Eyewitness News interview with Selorm Adonoo on Citi FM on Tuesday.
She pointed out that although the business had been in constant contact with them and had given these amenities along with their bills, they had still not paid off their debts.
After they received their invoices for a while, we have now sent them a demand notice. Additionally, we will disconnect them after 72 hours if they don’t pay.This is comparable to the final option before disconnecting. We have communicated with them; they have already received multiple bills from us, and each statement specifies a deadline for payment, which they have failed to meet.
Because of this, we decided against disconnecting them completely, but we have sent them a demand notice so that they will at least have a 72-hour window of grace before we take any more action.The last option is to cut the connection if they don’t show up at all.
