Foreign Affairs Ministry denies knowledge of Ghana Card as e-passport

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ghana has denied knowledge of the trending reports that the Ghana National Identification Card,well known as Ghana Card has been approved globally as a valid e-passport for travels.

It would be recalled that even in our previously published news on this same issue, we announced that the Ghana Card has finally been approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to be used globally as a valid e-passport.

During a “Key Ceremony” meeting on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada, where Ghana was represented by the High Commissioner to Canada, H.E Ransford Sowah, he was handed a “KEY” to confirm that Ghana’s entry into the ICAO family is now approved.

Well, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong speaking in a new radio interview has reacted to the rive reports quickly circulating saying he and his ministry has no knowledge of it.

Speaking on Akoma FM’s current affairs and political show GhanAkoma on Thursday, February 10, 2022, said that the report is not emenating from his Foreign Affairs ministry and also that he cannot confirm that the card is accepted as e-passport or not.

Speaking further on the issue, Ampratwum Sarpong disclosed that the circulating reports are not from the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because he was at a meeting with his minister and she also denied knowledge of the said topic of the Ghana Card being approved globally as e-passport.

He also added that maybe the information ciriculatin is from a higher authority above his ministry but the ministry has no knowledge in other to confirm the news.
