Ghanaian boy stabbed to death by 17-year-old boy in London

On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the Stratford Magistrate Court in the UK made headlines when it accused a 17-year-old boy with murder in relation to the untimely death of another 17-year-old, Nathan Bawuah, who was thought to be of Ghanaian heritage.

Standard.co.uk sources state that Nathan Bawuah, who was repeatedly stabbed by the accused in East London, passed away from his wounds in a hospital.

British officials have provided details of the deadly incident that occurred on Hackney Road in East London on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at approximately 11:00 pm local time.

“This (charge) relates to an incident in Hackney Road, E2 on Saturday, 17 February when 17-year-old Nathan Bawuah died after being stabbed. Nathan’s family has been informed and continues to receive support from specialist officers,” stated a segment of the police statement

Monday, February 19, 2024, saw law enforcement officials confirm the suspect’s arrest.

Although it wasn’t stated in the story specifically, the victim’s name, Bawuah, suggests that he may have been of Ghanaian descent. Nathan Bawuah was also allegedly of Ghanaian descent, according to a Ghanaian living in London.

The Ghanaian woman, who raised awareness of the need for parents to exercise caution, expressed her distress over the growing number of deaths of Ghanaians residing overseas in a widely shared video.

In Hackney, a neighbourhood she called dangerous, especially after 11:00 at night, she questioned why Nathan Bawuah’s parents allowed him to ride a bicycle.

Concerns about young people’s safety and parental supervision rang true in the woman’s plea, which implored Ghanaian expatriates to put their kids’ welfare ahead of their careers and hobbies.
