January 6 committee subpoenas Trump

Trump subpoenaed by Jan. 6 committee for deposition in mid-November

The House Select Committee looking into the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021 served a subpoena on former President Donald Trump on Friday for documents and his testimony.

The 45th president is already involved in a court battle with the Justice Department over sensitive records found at his Mar-a-Lago estate in August, so the subpoena is expected to start weeks of more legal sparring.

According to the panel’s letter, the committee requests that the former president provide any supporting documentation by November 4. This is to be followed by “one or more days” of his sworn testimony “on or about” November 14.

The subpoena orders Trump to produce all “relevant documentary material” and to participate in “one or more days of deposition testimony” starting on Nov. 14 “and continuing on subsequent days as necessary.”

An initial report by Fox News indicated that the former president “loves the idea of testifying” before the committee, but Trump has already hired the Dhillon Law Group to handle his engagements with the panel regarding the riots, Politico reported Thursday.
