The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) opposes a CHF150,000 (N63.9m) fine on Nigeria following the violence that occurred at their world cup 2022 second leg play-off against Ghana in Abuja.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria hosted the Black Stars of Ghana for the second leg of their Qatar FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on March 29, which ended with a scoreline 1-1.
Well, the Black Stars of Ghana made it through as the qualifiers to the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to the rule of Away goals which earned them a goal in addition.
Angry fans of the Super Eagle team who were not happy with the turnout of events after the country’s failure to qualify took to the pitch and began to attack players, staff, and officials leading to the death of a FIFA/CAF Doping Control Officer, from Zambia with the name, Joseph Kabungo.
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee after a careful review concluded with their decisions where they handed Nigeria a fine in the released summary jurisdiction.
FIFA fined Nigeria CHF150,000 which is equivalent to $154,085.25, N63,881,293, and GHS1,160,034, this was made known to the general public in their list of sanctions in a letter updated on April 28 available on their website which can be seen here.
The fine was for the country’s failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play, and throwing of objects.
